History

Being one of provincial key universities, Hebei Normal University originates from Shuntian Secondary School (founded 1902, Beijing) and Beiyang Women Teacher’s College (founded 1906, Tianjin). In June 1996, the former Hebei Teacher’s University, Hebei Teacher’s College, Hebei Education College (founded 1952) and Hebei Vocational Teacher’s College of Hebei Teacher’s University merged into the new Hebei Normal University.

Basic Data

The campus coverage is 1.22 km². There is a university library with 3.3 million volumes of books and a university museum. There are 24936 undergraduate students, 5870 graduate students in master’s program and 644 graduate students in doctoral program. The staff in total is 2601, including 1633 faculty.

Schools/Departments

Hebei Normal University has 23 schools(departments) and one independent college (Huihua College). The university currently offers 86 undergraduate majors, 29 first-level master’s degree programs, 24 professional master’s degree programs, 11 first-level doctoral degree programs, 1 professional doctoral degree program, and 10 postdoctoral research stations. Its academic disciplines cover 12 disciplinary categories, including Philosophy, Economics, Law, Education, Literature, History, Science, Engineering, Medicine, Management, Arts, and Interdisciplinary Studies.

Internationalization

Hebei Normal University maintains academic exchanges with over 200 foreign universities worldwide. The university has carried out academic education (covering undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs) and Chinese language education in more than 40 countries. In terms of international cooperation platforms, the university has established 4 Confucius Institutes, 1 Confucius Classroom, 1 China-Brazil Bilingual Intercultural High School, 1 Overseas College, and 2 Overseas Preparatory Colleges. It also dispatches volunteer Chinese teachers to more than 20 countries, actively participating in the international promotion of Chinese language and contributing to cross-cultural exchange .
