The 99th NARST International Annual Conference was held in Seattle, Washington, USA, from April 19 to 22 (local time). Associate Professor Li Chuan, Deputy Dean of the School of Teacher Education at Hebei Normal University, was invited to attend the conference and deliver a report and exchange on his research findings.
On the afternoon of April 19 (local time), Associate Professor Li Chuan, as the keynote speaker, reported on the outcome The Impact of STEM-PBL on Secondary School Students' Scientific Literacy, with our university as the independent research unit. This study adopted a meta-analysis method and, based on the CNKI database, systematically researched the impact of implementing Project-Based Learning in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education on the scientific literacy of secondary school students. It reached results showing a significant overall effect, with the largest effect sizes found in scientific thinking, the Information Technology discipline, small-class teaching of fewer than 50 students, and intervention durations of 2 to 4 months. It put forward suggestions such as focusing on scientific thinking, emphasizing the integration of information technology, carrying out group collaboration, and making efficient use of time.
This is the first time that teachers and students from Hebei Normal University have submitted papers to and successfully participated in the NARST Annual Conference, fully demonstrating the phased achievements in the development of our university's Science Education major and discipline. In the future, Hebei Normal University will continue to strengthen academic exchanges with international science education researchers, actively build cooperation platforms and mechanisms, and promote science education-related outcomes to better serve national development and assist in school education discipline construction.
