On the evening of August 27th, Hebei Normal University’s Confucius classroom of the Universidade Federal Fluminense held the second anniversary celebration activities online. The Chinese and foreign directors of Confucius Classroom, representatives of teachers and students, as well as leaders, teachers and students of local Confucius Institute (Classroom) participated in the activities, and jointly wished the Confucius Classroom of Universidade Federal Fluminense a brilliant future.            

During the activities, the main work achievements of the Confucius Institute in the past two years were broadcast in the form of PPT, focusing on the work since 2019. The carefully made pictures bring everyone’s thoughts back to the activity site one after another. From the grand opening ceremony to the foreign president’s participation in the training, the Chinese and foreign parties participating in the joint meeting of Confucius Institutes in Latin America, from face-to-face Chinese courses to online teaching, from the teaching of Confucius Classroom of Universidade Federal Fluminense to the popular Chinese language and culture courses of the Rural Federal University of Rio De Janeiro, from Chinese courses in Rio Portuguese Chinese Bilingual Middle School and Middle School affiliated to Universidade Federal Fluminense to Chinese courses for master and doctoral students, from various on-the-spot cultural activities held in China Culture Week in 2019 to online Taijiquan course of Brazilian Kungfu champion and Pan American Kungfu champion under the epidemic situation this year, from the celebration of the first anniversary, the “International Seminar on China and the world before and after World War II” held in cooperation with the BRICS center to the online lecture “Introduction to the work of Confucius Institute and Chinese culture” held by Qiao Jianzhen, the Chinese director of Confucius Classroom in June this year and so forth, all the persons reviewed the development process of Confucius Classroom together, looking back on the present and the past, filled with great emotion.

Chinese teachers also shared their teaching experiences. Xie Jinyu reviewed her four years’ journey to Brazil. She described her two-year teaching experience in Portuguese Chinese Bilingual Middle School of Hebei Normal University, and her understanding of teaching after switching to Confucius Classroom. Wang Bingzhang, a volunteer teacher sent by our university, shared his teaching experience and achievements of Portuguese learning in the past year. From speaking a little Portuguese when he first arrived in Brazil, he now speaks in Portuguese fluently. He enjoys the pleasure of teaching Portuguese and Chinese and the charm of cultural differences between China and Brazil. He is also the first teacher sent to the teaching site of the Brazilian Confucius Classroom in the Rural Federal University of Rio De Janeiro, and is very popular with students.            

The students in Confucius Classroom also spoke enthusiastically. They expressed their love and gratitude for teachers, the joy of learning Chinese, and their fate with Chinese and China. They looked forward to the opportunity to experience Chinese culture and understand modern and contemporary China in Chinese land with 5,000 years of civilization after the epidemic. Among them, there are university students who have just learned Chinese for a few months, and university teacher who is only 50 years old and has been learning Chinese for more than two years. They said that Chinese brings them together and provides them with opportunities to contact Chinese culture. They hope that Confucius Classroom can connect more Brazilians with Chinese language and culture, and that the people of China and Brazil can enhance understanding and promote people-to-people communication.            

Livia, the foreign director of the classroom said, “Today is an unforgettable day and we have a very happy time. I think the Confucius Classroom (Institute) is a very good mode of cooperation in running schools. It provides a good platform for cooperation and exchange between Chinese and foreign universities, and is very conducive to cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries.”
