On the morning of December 13, 2019，the working conference of Chinese directors of Confucius Institute in 2019 was held in Conference Room 202 of the Administrative Building, HNU. Vice president Liu Ying listened to the work report and delivered the speech. The major principal directors of the Personnel Division, Organization Department, International Cooperation and Exchange Center, School of Foreign Languages and School of International Cultural Exchange and the Chinese directors of Confucius Institute attended the meeting.

Ren Yuhong, director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Center, reported the general situation of Confucius Institute and International Promotion of Chinese in 2019. She said that the work of the four Confucius Institutes (classrooms) undertaken by HNU have been steadily promoted this year and the teaching scale has been further expanded with the strong support for the Internationalization of the HNU. The HNU has gradually improved the system construction of Confucius Institute, actively selected Chinese teachers and volunteers to teach overseas, vigorously supported the academic and cultural exchange activities carried out at the Confucius Institute, completed the fourth Bandung Spirit Forum and other main Chinese promotion projects. All of these got widespread attention. However, at present, some problems in the construction of Confucius Institute still exist, such as the shortage of teachers and the lack of support for minor language majors (courses). In the next step, the university will continue to make efforts in talent reserve, professional construction and in-depth integration with cooperative institutions.

The current Chinese directors of the Confucius Institute of HNU reported in turn on the work carried out by the Confucius Institute this year and the plan for the next year. Qiao Jianzhen, director of Confucius Classroom at The Universidade Federal Fluminense, Brazil, briefly introduced the main work of this year’s classroom. She said that she would further expand the coverage of Chinese Teaching in primary and secondary schools in the city of Niteroy and strive to upgrade the classroom to Confucius Institute in 2020 in order to realize the integration of Chinese into the credit system of this university. Zhang Huizhen, Chinese director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Ricardo Palma, Peru, introduced the basic conditions of the Confucius Institute in Peru this year, and put forward targeted suggestions from the current positioning, future planning, problems and opportunities faced in the construction of the Confucius Institute. Wang Jun, Chinese director of Confucius Institute of Universitas Kristen Maranatha in Indonesia, on the basis of reporting the main work of Confucius Institute this year, mainly introduced the construction and implementation of teaching quality control and evaluation system of Confucius Institute in Indonesia. He pointed out that the Confucius Institute in Indonesia will continue to take Chinese teaching and dissemination of Chinese culture as the main line, improve teaching quality, expand the scale of school, and further improve promote the influence of Chinese language and culture and Confucius Institute in the local area.

Finally, vice president Liu Ying delivered the speech. He affirmed the work done by the three Chinese directors in the past year for the construction of the Confucius Institute and its foreign exchange and cooperation. He stressed that the construction of Confucius Institute is not only a national strategy, but also an important window of our university’s foreign exchange. The Confucius Institute undertakes the important task of the university’s internationalization strategy. Relevant departments and institutes must attach great importance to the construction of Confucius Institute, gather their strength and give full support to it. We should give full play to our existing advantages, hold high-level cultural and academic exchange activities, and further strengthen the Confucius Institute. To build the advanced Confucius Institutes, all Chinese directors are required to not only carry forward the traditional characteristics of their own Confucius Institutes, but also create a new situation for each Confucius Institute, so as to make greater contributions to promoting the international influence of the University and the scale of international exchanges.
